Pride of our Nation : Memoirs of World War II. / Gary Shaffer.

Shaffer, Gary, (author.).

Summary:

World War II was the most destructive war in history, with over 50 million dead. For those people affected by it, it was an unforgettable traumatic experience. This book is an anthology of World War II stories from interviews of World War II veterans and civilians. They are true stories. Some of the veterans that I would have liked to have included in this book declined to be interviewed. They simply did not want to relive their painful experiences even after many years had passed. Other veterans were very willing to share their stories so that their families would know and understand what they had experienced and to preserve this time for history. World War II began with the German invasion of Poland in 1939--two years before America entered the war. The first chapter is an eyewitness account of this invasion. The second chapter is an eyewitness to the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor. The following chapters are eyewitness stories representing the U.S. Army Air Corps (Air Force), the Womans Army Corp, the U.S. Army, the Marine Corps and the U.S. Navy. Some of these veterans were involved in major battles and campaigns of the war.
